December's Narc Magazine

December's Narc Magazine is out! I was asked to do an illustration for the quiz section of the magazine, and the question this month, is about the new Julian Casablancas album :)

It's a good album, took me a couple of listens to get in to it, but it's definitely a grower. I love The Strokes though, so Julian Casablancas can't do much wrong in my eyes.

Christmas Cards & Shoegazer

The lovely blog shoegazer has featured my Christmas cards yay! Thanks ever so much!

My Christmas cards will be available on etsy until Dec 15th, only a few more weeks til the festive day! I officially started my shopping by buying wrapping paper yesterday, so at least I made a start.

I can't believe it's december already, where has this year gone?!

Sunday, 29 November 2009

I made a pattern! Hopefully I'm going to screen print it at some point, so I'll keep it black and white for now.

I actually joined a print studio recently, I'm so excited, I can't wait to make prints! They'll all probably end up on my bedroom wall, but it'll be fun!

Possum in the tea

Because I was feeling silly.

I heard the song 'Possibility' by Lykke Li for the first time the other day while watching the new twilight film and as I wasn't paying proper attention I thought the lyrics said 'there's a possum in the tea' hehe, it's actually 'possibility' but I'm daft and easily amused and a quick scribble soon appeared...
It's actually a lovely song, the whole twilight soundtrack is rather wonderful infact, I'm very much enjoying new Death Cab and Grizzly Bear (and if you take our the killers it would be perfect!)

AphroChic feature

I realise this is fairly old news as it was posted in July, but I've only just discovered it! A very lovely feature on AphroChic's blog [ click]. I came across it when I was googling myself - (like you do!) I was just checking to make sure my website comes up in google.... hehe (which it does, yay!)

I'm very flattered and thank you ever so much to the lovely AphroChic. I love her blog, it's full of beautiful and inspiring things, I could look at it all day

Friday, 13 November 2009

So I finally got around to redoing my website! It's fairly simple but its easy to use. There's still a couple things to edit but for now my website is no longer on a hiatus! (I know its taken me like 6 months to do anything with it, but I promise I will try and update it more often)

Screen printing fun!

I love screen printing! I printed my little hummingbird illustration today, as an edition of 5 (how cool is that - an EDITION - of FIVE!)

I twittered this picture earlier but I'll try and get a better pic up soon, its quite dark, I took it on my phone. I think I'm going to join the print studio as I have many plans for printing in the future! Plus, I will have more time to experiment next time.

London tomorrow! Excitement!

November's Narc 'Animal'

My latest contribution to the wonderous Narc magazine :)

The work is based around Miike Snow's debut single 'Animal' (and I've just given you the answer if you want to enter the competition!) I'm very much loving Miike Snow's album at the minute, I think it's definitely in my top 5 albums of 2009. The video is quite nifty also.

I'm screen printing again tomorrow! Fuuuun! Hopefully I should have a finished print to show you at the end of the day.

Tuesday, 3 November 2009

Oof its been a while!

I've been a very neglectful blogger - 2 weeks since my last post?! Where have I been?!
Well, I started a screen printing course last Sat which is just super fun! Hopefully by next week I should have something worth posting up here... I absolutely loooved the printing studio, I do so much of my work on the computer its nice to be in a real studio for once. I've decided I want to learn etching next! The whole process is fascinating!

Heres a bunny

He's a work in progress and will probably make an appearance in my next project. I'm working on a few things at the min which I can't post yet til they're finished. I should be in this months Narc magazine, I haven't gotten round to getting a copy yet though.

I'm off to lovely London town on Sunday, I'm sure I'll find many wonderful things to inspire me.

Hope you've all had a lovely halloween and happy bonfire night for thursday! yay! sparklers!

Accordian books

I bought a really cool little accordion style sketchbook from a little shop in SoHo (New york!) and I've been scribbling in it every now and then for about 2 weeks, its started out sort of like a story... Im not really sure where it's going but I'm excited to find out...

I want to go back to New York! Newcastle is just boring in comparison.

Marching Bands Of Manhattan

"I wish we could open our eyes,
To see in all directions at the same time"

Death Cab For Cutie

If I had a soundtrack to go along with my adventure in NY, this would be it.

I heart NY!

I'm bacccckkkk!!
Had a wonderous time in the big apple! Theres so much to see and do I actually ran out of time, which only means I'll have to go back again very soon. I have no idea what labour day weekend is, but there were lots of sailors in times square which was kinda neat.

I've decided I'm moving to New York! And when I do, I will live in greenwich village, cause its so cool and my new favourite place :)

I've got loads of pictures, I'll have to get them off my camera soon as I find the cable. I have soo many ideas too for new illustration work, I got this really interesting book from the MoMA bookshop that's really inspired me, it's a shame the actual exhibitions were closed at the time. Who closes a gallery on a tuesday anyway?! Very random.

The World At Large, Modest Mouse

Possibly my favourite Modest Mouse song ever, it's at least in my top 3 anyway.
I love them so.

Daily inspiration

This is my favourite part of the day, looking at lovely pictures :D
Kime Buzzelli is such a wonderful artist, I actually came across a FLAUNT Magazine cover she did a while ago, which was amazing but I couldn't find a good enough picture to post.

I'm in the process of making a couple of changes to my blog you might have noticed the new header...

Oooh I have a song to post too!
I really like this song by the Temper Trap (below). You may have heard it on an advert on tv for V festival or something but listen to it in full anyway. They sound alot like a new Mumm-ra if you ask me, some of their other songs on their myspace are worth checking out too (down river is a good one).

Daily inspiration....

I just looove the work of mydeadpony! I wish I could just print it all off and plaster my wall with it.

I started a new illustration but I have no scanner right now, so it'll have to wait a few days :( I also have a few more things to post, and I'm setting up an etsy shop yay! exciting things happening.

2 little birdies.

A sparrow flew in to my office the other day and bumped its head on the window and knocked itself out - daft thing, buts it's ok though cause I was there to save the day!

Seb Lester

So... I hope you're all having a lovely weekend!

I went to Electrik Sheep today (one of my fav places in Newcastle - I just love all the books they have, I really could spend hours looking at them). They have a show in their gallery on at the min with Seb Lester which is pretty nifty, I just loooove this image 'tits', its just brilliant!

I would love to have this on a wall as well

I'm soo excited for their next show though, one of my all time favourite illustrators Si Scott will be showing yay! I must make the effort to go the opening, I don't know whether he'll be there or not though.. I really wish his website wasn't 'under construction' I love looking at his work.

I have a couple new things to add soon to my blog when I get them scanned in.... I'm really going to try hard next week to get my act together with my portfolio!
So unorganised -sigh-

Australian Vogue

I really need this copy of Australian VOGUE. Fashion illustrator David Downton created not 1 - but FOUR covers for Australian vogue's latest issue, and the fact that they're all covers makes it so much more amazing. (I'm totally copying and reblogging this off Birdy & Me's blog cause otherwise I'd probably have never spotted this hehe).

I think the 3rd image has to be my favourite... so lush. I need to find somewhere in the UK that sells Australian Vogue, any ideas? Borders maybe... ?

It's vintage daaarling

A sort of vintage inspired illustration...
I love colour.

I'm going to London in a few weeks in search of treasure, hopefully I'll find some wonderful things to be inspired by in camden and brick lane.

For my birthday a couple weeks ago, my lurvely sister (hi steph!) and I, went to a ceramics studio to paint cups! It was fabulous fun, and even though I got a bit ambitious with my painting, and didn't quite finish, I think it turned out quite well

I must go back and paint a teapot, and maybe a cake plate... and I'll have a whole collection of tea related crockery!

sixty 1

New new new!
I've sorted of neglected my illustration a bit lately, but I'm getting my act together again now yay. So, if anyone would like to pay me to draw things, commissions are very welcome! I need to sort out printing up a portfolio and things, I'm usually so much more organised... I may enter the AOI Images competition thing, if I can decide on an image to submit... but charging £20 per entry is a bit extreme if you ask me.

And I have 4 new followers, this is very exciting, who are you lovely people? Please comment or something so I know you're real life people and not someone going around spamming the world.

Also, if anyone would like to design me a website free of charge? be my guest ;) I'm not in the mood to faff with html and the like so my blog will have to do for now.

Until next time! x

Florence & Narc

I love Florence and the machine and I was asked to illustrate her but the project never got finished so here it is anyway... :) I may add to it I don't know yet...

I also got around to getting a copy of july's Narc magazine... my latest illustration for their Opinion feature about music festivals....

I really want to go to a festival now! (I know its quite a poor quality picture, my camera's doing strange things at the min)

I've been a very lazy blogger of late but I finally have internet set up in my new house so yay! Expect lots of exciting new updates. Though they probably won't be that exciting.... Ooooh in the space where I have been away, I have acquired 2 new followers - woo!! Hello new followers, into double digits now, I will try and be interesting from now on!

Saturday, 4 July 2009

A couple new illustrations :) Yay. Just something quick with watercolours.
I should be getting the internet at my flat this week, so I won't be deprived of the computer world for much longer!

Sunday, 28 June 2009

Narc again :)

I think the latest issue of Narc is out this week, which I did an illustration for a couple weeks ago but I haven't seen it yet aaaah! Must get to the shops tomorrow.

Lazy blogger

I know I haven't blogged in a while :( been v busy moving house and whatnot and I don't have the internet set up yet (grr) I have a few new illustrations on the go but no scanner... -sigh-

Oooh I discovered this very wonderful artist the other day at work - Shannon Crees - her paintings are so beautiful, I wish I could buy one. I may just have to settle for looking at them online.

I have lots more to blog about but no time....

stay tuned x
